ARE COMMON HOUSEHOLD FEVER REMEDIES REALLY EFFECTIVE?

For a symptom that is as common as fever, there is a wide range of home remedies that are believed to help alleviate the discomfort it brings. However, a lot of these home remedies have not been scientifically proven to help a child who has fever.

Covering up in blankets. The first instinct of someone who is feverish is to cover up because they feel cold. However, the body's base temperature is also rising as the body tries to fight off the infection. Covering up in blankets therefore may not actually bring much comfort when your child has fever.

Comfort food. Hot soup and warm tea are effective in easing a child’s discomfort from fever. Tea helps induce sweating, which helps cool down the high temperature brought about by fever. Soups, on the other hand, are useful in easing the discomfort from nasal congestion and sore throat that could come with fever. When mixed with vegetables that have minerals and proteins, they become helpful in boosting the immune system. But if the fever is caused by a stomach virus, certain dairy-based soups can worsen some conditions like diarrhea. Spicy or tomato-based soups can also make a sore throat worse. For safe and effective relief from fever, give your child Paracetamol (Calpol®), katuwang mo magbigay ng GINHAWA na Maaasahan.

Sponge bath. When the discomfort becomes unbearable for your child, one good way to bring down his fever is to use a towel or sponge soaked in lukewarm water to bathe the person as this helps take away the excess heat.

Not all home remedies will have good effects on the body. Some can further aggravate the fever so it is still best to consult your doctor when your child’s fever persists. And when it comes to providing immediate relief from fever, trust only doctor recommended Calpol® --- for that GINHAWA na Maaasahan that your child needs.
